{"id":1197,"date":"2011-10-12T13:12:08","date_gmt":"2011-10-12T18:12:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/civilsocietytrust.org\/blog\/?p=1197"},"modified":"2011-10-18T14:14:15","modified_gmt":"2011-10-18T19:14:15","slug":"ending-the-discussion-of-fair-share","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/civilsocietytrust.org\/blog\/2011\/10\/12\/ending-the-discussion-of-fair-share\/","title":{"rendered":"Ending the Discussion of &#8220;Fair Share&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Let\u2019s talk about \u201cfair share.\u201d \u00a0 President Obama certainly wants to. \u00a0  He\u2019s \u201call in\u201d on the notion that \u201cthe rich\u201d don\u2019t pay their \u201cfair  share\u201d of taxes in this country. \u00a0Indeed, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/business\/economy\/democrats-shift-the-definition-of-rich-in-battle-over-taxes\/2011\/10\/05\/gIQAZj8dOL_story.html\">he\u2019s wagering his re-election<\/a> on the bet that a majority of voters will agree with him. \u00a0When the tyranny of the majority succeeds, Obama will win, too.<\/p>\n<p>As parents, one of our most important tasks is to know when to say  \u201cno\u201d to our children. \u00a0We all recognize a \u201cbrat\u201d when we see one \u2014 a  child who\u2019s never been told \u201cno\u201d, and whines and complains until he or  she gets his or her way. \u00a0\u201dShame on his parents!\u201d, or perhaps that\u2019s not  politically correct to say anymore. \u00a0But bratty children grow up to be  bratty voters, too.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately our political system often rewards the political  equivalent of the irresponsible parent. \u00a0 Using Other People\u2019s Money,  irresponsible\u00a0politicians promise the world, and the bratty voters like  it. \u00a0Once elected, these politicians do their best to deliver the goods.  \u00a0 It\u2019s alright, they say, because of their interpretation of the  General Welfare and Commerce clauses of the Constitution. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cato.org\/constitution\/ConstitutionAd_Politico-2011.pdf\">Others beg to differ\u2026<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Sadly, under such a system, no amount of revenue to the government is  ever enough, because human wants are themselves unlimited. \u00a0Therefore,  those with a lot of assets, with \u201ca lot\u201d being defined by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fff.org\/freedom\/0395f.asp\">politics of envy<\/a>, become natural targets for the boundless benevolence of these irresponsible people \u2013 voters and politicians alike.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/www.daylife.com\/image\/0gAQeyI9c1dIb?utm_source=zemanta&amp;utm_medium=p&amp;utm_content=0gAQeyI9c1dIb&amp;utm_campaign=z1\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs-images.forbes.com\/deanzarras\/files\/2011\/10\/300x219.jpg\" alt=\"NEW YORK, NY - AUGUST 05:  'Varney &amp;
